ABSTRACT
This chapter is the first-hand narrative of Patrick Ettenes who is living with HIV and early onset dementia. The chapter recounts how Patrick as a gay non-binary person has worked for change and raising awareness on LGBTQ+ people with dementia through projects such as ‘Bring Dementia Out’. Patrick also describes his/her experiences with loneliness and mental health issues and the significance of friendship and of returning home to Barbados to sustain through difficult times. Patrick points to how persons who like himself ‘fit many categories’ may function to create dialogues and alliances between different communities and forms of activism.
