ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the formulation of research problems in practical theological studies. The chapter starts by exploring different examples of practical theological research problems that are found in the literature. Based in part on this, the chapter presents concrete suggestions for how to formulate problem statements concisely and precisely. One important means for finding out what we already know about a certain topic and what, precisely, is unknown is what we call a systematic literature review. This chapter discusses how to use the systematic literature review as a means to arrive at a suitable research problem in practical theology.
