ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 focuses on the data in the study. First, the materials and the methods are set out and described in detail, including the procedure and the testing. Then, the expectations from the study are posited. In the actual experiment, the participants are asked to draw the scene that they imagine upon reading a literary text fragment and also to indicate the position from where they view this in their mind’s eye. The data is then presented in detail with extensive descriptions. Thereafter, a short provisional discussion is conducted whereby the notions of point of view, language, deictic shifts, and schemas are all drawn on. The goal of this short interim reflection is to highlight some emerging patterns and also to point forward to the main discussion that is to come in Chapter 5.
