ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the importance of migration in the development of age-friendly cities, with an examination of the background behind the growth in the population of older migrants, with reference to those who migrated in search of work, as well as those who came to provide care for children. The chapter examines the various challenges facing migrants, but also how they adapt and re-build their lives and the communities in which they live. It also considers issues relating to financial insecurity, especially in the context of their access to pensions and welfare benefits. The discussion concludes with an assessment of the range of policy issues arising from the relationship between ageing, migration, and urbanisation.
