ABSTRACT

Kinship foster care is now an established term and out-of-home care option in many countries, but can be defined and understood differently in various contexts. The introduction gives an overview of how we in this book approach kinship foster care and the theoretical frameworks in which the phenomenon is explored. The chapter also gives insight into our research project; the origins of the project and the data collected through the project at three time points, and what led us to write a book on the issue. Here we show what characterises the families who participated in our research project which provide some guide rails for the book.
