Introduction

This introductory chapter gives general information about the book. In addition to providing a bird’s eye view of the sporting landscape, the chapter presents the aims of the book and the questions to be answered. The book’s structure and the general talking points of the chapters also find themselves a place here. The term ‘articulate consistency’, which underlines the idea that the principles, rules, theories, standards and justifications used in reaching a decision should also be applied in future cases, first appears in this chapter. The term will undergird the core of the arguments presented in this book.
