ABSTRACT

This chapter delves into the intricate and multifaceted relationship between religion and the contemporary urban environment of Belo Horizonte. We begin by examining religious groups' demographics and urban distribution, specifically emphasising the proliferation of Pentecostal and Candomble infrastructure. Subsequently, we examine the various aspects of religious territorialisation, such as the ramifications of temple distribution, the different temple typologies, and their impact on shaping human perception and behaviour within the urban milieu. The chapter concludes with a nuanced examination of the Concórdia neighbourhood, where the forces of urbanisation have given rise to a unique and intricate relationship between the city and religion.
