ABSTRACT

The present chapter constitutes a revisitation of my personal recollection of the intricate relationship between religion and music, which has been shaped and influenced by the research that has culminated in this book. Employing a novel and nuanced perspective, I endeavour to illuminate the manifold ways in which the oeuvres of a select cohort of artists serve to fortify the expanded conception of orality as a time-honoured technology of preservation and dissemination of the sacrosanct.

In this vein, the utilization of the sung word within the Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) corpus transmutes into a sophisticated conflation of disparate dimensions, wherein diverse facets of cultural customs and religious motifs intermingle in a sublime melange. This venture represents a meticulously structured and exploratory undertaking that derives impetus from my initial preoccupation and yearning to plumb the depths of this topic.
