ABSTRACT
This chapter provides insights into an ongoing research project with pre-service teachers of Spanish in Germany that deals with their awareness of and attitudes toward using one or more standard varieties of Spanish. The aim of the project is to document how these pre-service teachers experience their competence and explores their attitudes toward using their variety of Spanish before, during, and after a five-month internship. The topics of analysis will be the varieties they use and under which conditions they adapt their use of varieties.
