ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the three tactics of MM based on the metatheories presented in the previous part. According to legalism, morality managers should promote obedience to some law. Antinomianism suggests that agents should manage morality according to their value preferences, while situationists propose middle tactics of morality management that navigate between legalism and antinomianism. Section 19 shows how the legalist tactics of codifying human actions lead to moral authoritarianism. Section 20 shows how antinomian emphasis on individual liberty welcomes the danger of power abuse. Section 21 focuses on the situationist approach in morality management, which centres love as the guiding principle for ethical decisions, contrasting with legalism's rigidity and antinomianism's emphasis on arbitrariness.
