ABSTRACT
The revival of fittingness in contemporary philosophy engages an ancient set of ideas in Asian religious traditions concerning order, harmony, and flow. In Chinese traditions these ideas are expressed in various concepts and practices including the dao, water, chi, sage, virtue, heaven, filial piety, and music. In this chapter, I examine how the idea of fittingness is manifest in these concepts that belong to Daoism and Confucianism, and also in traditional Chinese architecture.
