ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter reflects on the most significant findings of the study and points out the unique characteristics of this part of the Italian diaspora, such as moving from the Global North to the Global South. The italianità constructed in South Africa appears to differ from the italianità constructed elsewhere, in other Italian diasporas or in Italy itself. Descendants of Italian immigrants to South Africa tend to define themselves using only selected cultural markers, such as food, art, and an ancient history. Other features associated with life in Italy are completely ignored. The chapter also explores some limitations inherent to this study and proposes possible areas for future research.
