ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the implications of the findings presented in Chapters 5-7 and offers outlooks for future research. It first returns to the issue of interpreting change over time in L2 interactional practices in terms of development and learning. It then discusses seven specific implications of the empirical results for our understanding of the development of L2 interactional competence and for L2 learning more generally. The chapter also highlights the contributions of the study to the research on complaining in interaction. It concludes by reflecting on possibilities for future research, including applications of the findings for purposes of developing educational policy and practice.
