ABSTRACT
Fandom might seem to encourage an adversarial mentality, one that can lead to violence. We admit this can happen but argue that this doesn’t mean fandom as a whole is not valuable, and the same things that lead to violence can also lead to virtuous loyalty. We introduce the idea of a critical fan.
