ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the distinct perspective of this monograph, highlighting the conceptual puzzle of why, given comprehensive disclosure requirements, financial communication and investor relations can contribute to the value of corporations. It explores why financial communication can rightfully be considered a field of strategic communication by outlining the origins of financial communication and investor relations and their evolution into strategic functions engaged in relationship management and executive advisory. This introduction establishes core definitions and introduces salient fields of research that underscore the conceptual argument of this book. Finally, it introduces the book’s argumentative and chapter structure.
