ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the financial communication and investor relations profession. First, it introduces key corporate communicators in the capital market arena, including members of the executive board, financial communication professionals, and investor relations officers. It reviews and applies insights into communicator roles from public relations research and presents original research into the collaboration between key communicators. Based on evidence from the US, Europe, and beyond, this chapter explains the institutionalization and professionalization of the professional field. It highlights the role of professional associations, conferences, and educational programs.
