ABSTRACT

Having presented results related to identification and appropriation, this chapter will now go into the third-social performance, namely responsibilisation. Responsibilisation of self and others represents the various ways in which grievances are embedded in narratives that are oriented towards action. Crucial findings regarding responsibilisation, which constitutes a central link between grievances and action, include the role of the revolutionary void, i.e., the feeling that nobody is doing anything about the injustice, the logics of jusqu’au-boutisme, which can be described as a constant quest for authenticity, as well as the ideological constructs of combat masculinity and jihad, which draw on jusqu’au-boutisme to justify physical mobilisations to fight for justice.
