ABSTRACT

Part IV of this book presents the findings that relate to a series of aspects that are operating in a sphere that is increasingly detached from grievances. These factors contribute to our understanding of aspects related to engagement itself, to mobilisation and violence. This chapter includes a discussion of the ‘taste of radicality’, i.e., aspects of engagement that are associated with adventurism, thrill-seeking and bravado, and are difficult to reconcile with the altruistic narratives related to grievances.
