ABSTRACT

Robust decentralization reforms in Indonesia have empowered subnational governments (SNGs) to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A broad range of civil society organizations have been drawn into the effort and have cooperated with government at all levels. Although localizing the SDGs is an accepted principle, priority is given to national priorities, which are carried out through regional government platforms for SDG coordination. The specific functions of SNGs and established intergovernmental mechanisms are not given sufficient attention in maximizing the role of SNGs
