ABSTRACT
What are the reasons behind the misalignment of sustainable urban development policies across different governance levels in the European Arctic? To answer this question, which has guided the writing of this book, this chapter summarises the main findings presented in the previous chapters. It delves into the intricate balance required to achieve sustainable development in the face of significant climate change impacts, socio-economic disparities, and the need for innovative approaches to urban management. Our findings imply a greater need to integrate diverse actor perspectives to advance vertical and horizontal knowledge transfer and to align policy-making on urban development with the global goals. This chapter lays the groundwork for the subsequent policy recommendations and future research directions.
