ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses denominal verbs in -a. The proposal argues that the parasynthetic cases are characterised by the presence of a PredP head that builds them as dynamic change of state verbs where change is predicated from the internal argument, or by presence of a little p layer with or without a lexical P layer, which defines the verb as locative or instrumental. Non parasynthetic verbs lack both layers, something which forces the verb meaning to be based on qualia structure, defining four relevant conceptual classes of verbs depending on which quale is activated.
