ABSTRACT

This chapter engages the practices and writings of Precarias a la Deriva (PD), describing how this self-named “militant research project” came about. Based on participation as well as engagement with PD's prolific textual and cartographic production, the chapter provides an overview of the research techniques advanced by this unique in-house research project (e.g. feminist drifts, picket-surveys, mapping expeditions etc.). Following their depictions, precarity refers to unfolding conditions of otherwise avoidable vulnerability in everyday life. This leads to an intersectional understanding of precarity beyond the realm of labor, expanding its conceptual and political possibilities. In fact, PD and its aftermath as the Precarious Affairs Agency were key in bringing the feminist question of “care” to the fore of precarity struggles. This led to the development of two alliances briefly introduced in this chapter: one focused on migrant domestic careworkers, and the other on dis/ability rights.
