ABSTRACT
When too many obstacles appear in your life and work, decide what you do and don’t need, and walk away from unproductive stressors. When Dr. Feldman was diagnosed with late-stage cancer, it led her to begin working on a documentary on trauma and mindfulness. The project’s failure taught her to stop, exert self-care, change direction, and explore new creative avenues, achieving even greater impact and fulfillment. This book is the result of that career change. The case deals with difficult career decisions faced by a successful, second-generation Chinese-American man in the San Francisco Bay Area. Brian needed a better work/life balance from his high-powered consulting job, but he also wanted to please his parents, who had sacrificed so much to help him gain financial and career success. He wanted to switch careers to become a veterinarian but was worried about giving up his high-status position and salary. Questions posed include: “How common is the dilemma Brian faces, based on your experience and that of others you know? Which mentors, family, friends, and professionals can offer him the best advice?”
