ABSTRACT

This introduction outlines the scope and argument of the book. It outlines the development of Marion Milner’s autobiographical acts throughout her lifetime, as expressed in her published work and in work now contained in her archives. It proposes that Milner is a thinker to whom we can turn to explore the therapeutic potentialities of autobiographical and creative self-expression. It outlines Milner’s legacy within psychoanalysis and the tradition of life writing; prior scholarship on Milner’s autobiographical books; and the specific contribution to studies of Milner this book seeks to make.
