ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to evaluate the contemporary situation of low-income settlements in Colombo. These settlements are distinctive geographic locations that enhance the reciprocal relationships between different groups in everyday engagement. Despite the positive implications of cultural diversity among the people, the settlements’ notoriety for being problematic locations hinders recognizing their valuable and noteworthy diversity. Given that a significant proportion of individuals residing in these localities lack the requisite documentation to substantiate their property ownership, they are compelled to confront multifarious socioeconomic and environmental predicaments, while also being persistently besieged by the spectre of eviction.
