ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter summarises the key findings and arguments of the book, and potential areas for further research and action. It summarises the policy context of the creative industries discourse, and craft’s tenuous status as a creative industry, as discussed in Chapter 1. Chapters 2 and 3 provide historical context as to why inequalities persist in contemporary craft, and presents the qualitative research of interviews with makers from ethnically diverse groups in professional craft, and case studies of socially engaged craft organisations in the UK and Australia. The section ‘Making Changes in Craft’ summarises the framework presented in Chapter 4, which sets out what social justice and equity in craft might look like. The chapter finishes with suggestions for practical interventions in craft, and areas for further research.
