ABSTRACT
Research shows that the experience of tokophobia (ie, fear of pregnancy) may be different when both parents have the biological ability to conceive and give birth. Fundamental concepts such as parity may not apply to LGBTQ+ families in the same way as they do to cisheterosexual families, and this may have implications for how parents process birth experiences. This chapter provides a summary of what is currently known about the interventions for birth trauma, and how these might apply to LGBTQ+ parents. Access to support services may also be different for LGBTQ+ parents—debriefing services are usually only available to women who have themselves given birth, and perinatal mental health services are often divided by gender rather than gestational experience.
