ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter presents the object of the study, anti-trafficking social protection programmes, and its specific focus: Nigerian female beneficiaries’ and practitioners’ narration of their experiences of the N.A.Ve project, in the north-eastern Veneto Region. After introducing the INSigHT Action, from which this book stems, the chapter will present the theoretical background on which the research has been built. It will argue that while increasing research has been published on protection programmes, the voice of beneficiaries has hardly been heard, thus calling for contributions on the subjective experiences of beneficiaries, women particularly. It will then present the research design, which included a long ethnographic observation, from June 2019 to May 2020, and almost 60 interviews with practitioners and beneficiaries. It will conclude by presenting the book structure.
