ABSTRACT
This chapter presents basic statistics on shadow education enrolment rates in the 12 Middle East countries (Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the UAE and Yemen). It also describes the modes and qualities of shadow education in these countries, and seasonal variations in provision. These considerations are essential to depict the drivers of demand and supply of shadow education in the region.
