ABSTRACT

Danish patterns are very different from those in the other four countries presented in this part of the book. In common with its Scandinavian counterparts, Denmark has long been reputed for an egalitarian social structure, strong government management of education and a general sense that the public education system serves the society well. Yet in recent times, shadow education has emerged even in Denmark. Its scale is far below that of the other four countries, but has shown significant growth. Most tutoring is delivered by university and even secondary-school students. The government is not currently giving much attention to the sector, and arguably should regulate more strongly.
