ABSTRACT

This chapter considers activism enacted through a feminist performance-making methodology. It looks at how this form of health activism can trouble the lens of vulnerability that is imposed on women who are marginalized, in this case women living well with HIV and women who experience the threat of gender-based violence. The chapter acknowledges how these women’s lived narratives are often marginalized, leading to a lack of recognition and validation of the diversity and multiplicity of their quotidian lives, which can have significant impacts on their health experiences. The value and need for counternarratives to redress such a vulnerabilization of women is where feminist performance-making has a role to play.
