ABSTRACT

This chapter explores contemporary posthuman cognitions on agency and intelligence, providing a theory-rich reflection on how we could conceive of intelligent machines such as AI systems in the shared environment. Recent artificial intelligence breakthroughs, such as AlphaGO and ChatGPT, provide many transformative cases that challenge the notion of human-machine intelligence. Through examples from art and design research, this chapter presents a framing of the co-produced environment in which intelligent machines are active co-creators rather than mechanisms to extend human agency and control over the environment.
