ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter presents the research problem which focuses primarily on civil resistance practices and its impact on democracy. Further, the chapter discusses and shows how the previous research on civil resistance is linked to the research focus of this book. The conceptualisation of both these facets is then presented as the ABC of civil resistance (Avoidance, Breaking, and Constructive resistance), applied as the analytical tool in this study, to provide an understanding of the impact on democracy. The chapter also presents the methodological approach and research design and ends with an outline of the structure of the book.
