ABSTRACT
The case study analysis of the resistance campaign in Bil’in is focused on the struggle of one Palestinian village to retain its control over its lands. The campaign aimed at preventing Israel from building the Separation Wall across the farmlands of Bil’in and preventing the Israeli settlers from taking over the land and building new settlements. The campaign included all three ABC resistance practices. Although the villagers of Bil’in led the campaign, they had several alliances with Palestinian neighbours, as well as Israeli and international proxy-resisters. In this case, the struggle led to a partial success for democratising resistance. The Bil’in villagers managed to win in the Israeli High Court and forced Israel to re-route parts of the Separation Wall. Therefore, the tactics applied in Bil’in served as a role model for successful resistance for many other Palestinian villagers in the West Bank. The campaign’s action also had an impact on democracy.
