ABSTRACT
This chapter analyses the life story of one activist from the Bil’in campaign. The analysis highlights the life of an individual framed by the context of occupation and the dominance of a power, and how it matters in preparing and developing various resistance practices. The analysis underlines that much before the Bil’in campaign began, the activist had already gained important insights from his interactions with various family members, friends, and other Palestinians who had experienced the First and Second Intifada against the Israeli occupation forces. The activist views the Bil’in campaign as part of the broader liberation struggle of the Palestinians, that is, secession from Israel and building a Palestinian state. The campaign has strengthened the activist’s sense of empowerment, his strong identification with Bil’in and the Palestinian national identity, as well as his belief in democratic norms; these have resulted from the impact on democracy created by his role in resisting and preventing the building of the Security Barrier.
