ABSTRACT

This chapter provides key information about the underpinning research on which the book is based. It explains the rationale for the research design, and specifically its comparative case study approach and use of mixed methods. It also discusses the quantitative and qualitative phases of the research, and details how the research participants were selected. Demographic information is given about the research participants, and in particular the 63 female and male victims-/survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Colombia and Uganda who took part in semi-structured interviews. The process of coding and analysing the data is outlined, and the chapter ends by reflecting on some important ethics issues.
