ABSTRACT
Making bumps and jumping hurdles refers to challenges in a craft learning process and ways in which a maker encounters resistance when engaging with a material. The chapter provides insights into a novice’s experiences of raising aluminium. In this study, resistance is examined from an insider perspective through an autoethnographic and practice-led approach. The study identifies four aspects of the maker’s experience of resistance in making processes: not knowing, bodily strains, frustrations, and doubts. These are discussed in relation to craft theory and an embodied perspective.
