ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 searched for answers to the following questions: is flexible human resources management a choice or a necessity for enterprises, and whether any attempts to limit these processes are against economic efficiency. The role of strategic adjustment of the organisation to the environment and the reistic approach to work as well as the shaping of the competences market were emphasised.

This chapter describes the segmentation of employees according to the concept of Ch. Handy, distinguishing between core, contractual and peripheral workers. It presents the effects on the employer-employee relationship. In this context, a variety of views are presented, including neo-luddist, anti-ludditist and flexicurity. It was indicated that a number of new phenomena on the labour market have emerged that are worth learning about in order to manage human capital effectively.
