ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 discusses the determinants of an individual’s functioning in the short-term labour market resulting from flexible human resources management. Concepts related to the Savickas’s career construction model, such as adaptation, career ability, maturity and readiness to adapt, are defined.

Finally, the scheme of the employee's functioning in the changing labour market as a result of flexible human resources management, resulting from the constant job loss and finding employment is discussed. The importance of the competency portfolio, employability and marketability of employees to reduce job insecurity as an adaptation criterion is presented.

The next part shows that employment competences are necessary to achieve this adaptive status. The previous publications are reviewed, which describe the proposals for their classification along with an assessment of the adequacy of the new realities of the transactional psychological contract between the employee and the employer.
