ABSTRACT

The first chapter deals with the preliminary issues necessary to build the framework for further discussions and help to situate deliberations. It begins with the justification for taking the research topic. Then the key concepts are presented, starting with AI and robots. Discussion focuses on the aspects of these concepts that may be important from the perspective of law. The phenomenological approach used is discussed, focusing on how AI and robots appear to humans. Deliberations in the realm of criminal law on this topic are then considered. This chapter also discusses robot rights and moral change. The robot rights debate is a fast-growing academic subfield. How that debate relates to the topic covered in this book is considered. The potential impact of a change in moral norms on the applicability of the conclusions in this book is reviewed. This chapter ends with a presentation of this book's structure and notes on the adopted methods.
