ABSTRACT
This chapter is devoted to relationships with robots. There is a focus on the two relationships of love and friendship, which are special from the perspective of social life, morality, and law. In ongoing discussion on whether robots may be in that kind of relationship with humans, there are radically different positions. On the one hand, there is a focus on the lack of the inner state of robots that would enable them to enter into relationships that require reciprocity. On the other hand, there are claims that friendship and love are flexible enough to accommodate humans’ relations with robots. The author asks whether the law should recognize those relationships—even if we disagree that it is true love and true friendship. The author answers positively to that question in the case of love robots. He argues that due to the meaning of love in law, love robots should be included in the law. He focuses on criminal protection from an attack on these robots. The author claims there is a need for a change of law that protects those who love robots. The current law in this area and this legislative proposition are analyzed.
