ABSTRACT
This study focuses on contemporary structural bilateral Jewish-Muslim relations in London and Amsterdam. These bilateral relations are defined in terms of cooperation and conflict. The central research question concerns the development of these relations in London and Amsterdam between 1990 and 2020. What similarities and differences can be observed between them, and to what factors are they attributable? After introducing the theme and the research question, this introductory chapter defines the main terms used in the study and justifies the choice for making a comparison between Jewish-Muslim relations in London and Amsterdam. It discusses the academic and social relevance of the study in the current times in which 'diversity' and 'identity' are core themes. The last part of this chapter describes the method of comparison, the sources, and the methods of data collection used and presents an overview of the contents of this book.
