ABSTRACT
This chapter explains why two feminists felt compelled to write a book about saving the planet. It defines everyday activists as people who are not in positions of power, but who seek to make a positive difference in their corners of the world. While this chapter acknowledges that a phrase like saving the planet means a lot of things to different people, it avoids prescriptive recipes for change. Instead, the chapter talks in a broad sense about moving towards making changes that will benefit the planet as quickly as possible. Cooperation as a core concept is used to explain how global betterment can be achieved through small scale interventions. As well as outlining the underlying theories, the chapter provides an overview to demonstrate how each chapter builds an understanding of everyday activists. Each section of the book unpacks ways of being and doing that can help everyday activists maximise their individual and collective power to affect positive change.
