This chapter addresses a pivotal question: how can I look after myself so I can contribute for longer? Through the experiences, strategies, and insights of the everyday activists interviewed for this book, this chapter uncovers a profound truth – the preservation of one’s own wellbeing is not just a necessity, but a catalyst for enduring and effective activism. The chapter draws upon interview data and a diverse array of psychological theories that support wellbeing. By understanding and embracing these theories, activists can cultivate proactive strategies that foster resilience, prevent burnout, and promote personal growth. This chapter presents practical self-care strategies to navigate the complexities of activism while safeguarding mental health to enable sustained commitment.
