ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the topic and structure of the book Digital Transformation and Cultural Policies in Europe. It offers as the first chapter, the contextual outline of the subject in question while also briefly touching upon the focus of individual chapters. The second chapter then provides a key theoretical framework upon which the book is based, and after outlining the changing nature of key concepts of digital and cultural policy, it further provides argumentation for the nascent field of digital cultural policy research. The following seven chapters give country case studies from Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Croatia, and Norway. A special chapter is dedicated to the supranational dimension of digital cultural policy. The book concludes with a chapter providing a comparative analysis of the digital cultural policy of the seven countries, while also pointing to potential ways of developing these policies.
