ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the current state of the art regarding the use of video links as a form of participating in trials, enabling participation from various locations. This raises critical questions about how the absence of physical presence affects the trial experience and practices and how the environment from which one participates shapes engagement in legal proceedings, including the ritual that underpins trials. This chapter covers such topics as prevalence, advantages, problems, and the future, raising themes including the senses, atmospheres, eyework, and co-presence.
