ABSTRACT

Over the past recent years, the interest in crime in the form of true crime texts, juridical documentaries, podcasts, TV series, and films has exploded. This explosion has partly been enabled by digitalisation facilitating easier access to, and dissemination of, court proceedings and court documents, thus making the trial itself an object of interest. This has led to the trial becoming a form of public spectacle with podcasts constituting a form of public shaming. In this chapter I discuss the different formats in which the courts are consumed, and the positives and pitfalls associated with this.
