ABSTRACT
This chapter presents schooling and education as one of the nodes in the assemblage of a poor and vulnerable child. Since education shapes children's experience as well as their future imaginaries, the chapter attends to the various schooling challenges entangled in these contexts. Despite the pro-poor policies in Kenya and Africa, education is still out of reach for many children. An assemblage of other factors like gender, location, orphanhood, and representations of poor children interact in complex ways to influence children's experience. Children's precarious mode of living in pursuit of a better future through education requires response-ability from the state and other actors.
