ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses transformative (self-)leadership, the seventh field of Ruskin Mill Trust's method of Practical Skills Therapeutic Education. It visits the Field Centre in the Cotswolds, Ruskin Mill's purpose-built research centre, and discusses the range of different research carried out within the Trust, including the method of Goethean enquiry. A central theme within Ruskin Mill's method is the understanding that what is beneficial for young people with complex additional needs is also beneficial for the staff who are working with them: self-leadership, taking courage for self and others, is a crucial step. A conversation with the Trust's founder Aonghus Gordon goes into greater depth on the qualities of leadership, self-leadership, resilience and reflection.
