ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 describes Diversity Circles as the structure tool for Environmental Liberation Education. This chapter defines Diversity Circles as inclusive learning communities for holistic change and joyful justice sustainability experiences during academic routines. It explains that seven types of Diversity Circles operate three principles, evolving in five phases with three strategies: Sharing, Circle Questions, and Global Praxis. It details how educators, students, and community supports participate in multicultural alliances for holistic student success and teacher empowerment in a globalized world. It describes that Diversity Circles are like homerooms for trust, hosting courageous conversations to integrate academics with ethnic studies, diverse ways of knowing, and ecological activities. It shows that Diversity Circles are different from mainstream education collaborations because they engage mindfulness principles: interbeing, impermanence, and emptiness. The chapter outlines eight forms of curriculum. It explains how to transform academic standards with Equity Ecosystems, Content Creation, and Environmental Humanization activities. It describes Diversity Circle participation to develop Multicultural Mindfulness peace practices and big-picture Approach-in-Dimension design and assessment. It presents two Multicultural Mindfulness Activities and one journal question: Five Diversity Circle Projects, Diversity Circle Recipe, and How Do Diversity Circles Reconcile the Oppressor–Oppressed Conflict?
